Introduction:
Leisha takes a heart-forward approach to her practice. Her 10+ years of focusing exclusively on family law matters, coupled with her personal experience as a child of divorce, make her uniquely suited to assist clients through the transition that comes with the end of a relationship.
After routinely going to court in her first years as a lawyer, Leisha learned that focusing on reaching out-of-court settlements, either through a collaborative divorce or mediation/negotiation, is the best way to assist families. It reduces legal fees, stress and anxiety and allows parents to maintain a workable relationship going forward.
Of course, Leisha has practised long enough to understand that court is sometimes unavoidable - for example when one or both spouses is unwilling to work together to reach a resolution. In these cases, she takes a thoughtful and strategic approach. A key part of Leisha’s role is providing clients with guidance and education. Taking a “big picture” view, she is able to assess the long-term impacts of decisions and ensure the best possible outcome for you and your family. Her direct communication style ensures that her clients understand their options and make choices that are right for them.
Leisha truly believes that it is better to know “the good, the bad and the ugly” rather than simply be told what you want to hear. From personal and professional experience, Leisha understands that family law clients often need more than just legal support. It was this understanding that inspired her, together with business partner Simon Kent, to build a law firm where clients can access a community of support and feel empowered to move through the transition of separation/divorce to a better place.
Leisha advises her clients on all areas of family law, including property division (including businesses, family trusts and real estate), common law and equitable trusts, spousal support, child support, guardianship, mobility, parenting time, conflicts of law and separation agreements. She also assists clients who are in the beginning stages of their relationship by preparing marriage and cohabitation agreements relating to their business and property interests, family trusts and anticipated inheritances.
When away from the office (or on a Friday afternoon), Leisha enjoys a glass of wine, connecting with good friends and laughter.
